 Some obvious improvements that can be done client side.

* A like system. Likes are great and you can't do microblogging without them.
* A nicer looking interface. Oh my god does this one need work.
* Markdown editing
* Tabs to switch input fields
* Removing extraneous stuff like "location" and "music" that no one will ever share.

An API isn't what we want. These changes either can or must be implemented on the front-end, i.e. a browser extension is required.

An API would make it possible to code up a reader-website, like greaterwrong is for lesswrong.

I don't have time to spearhead any new projects, but could be persuaded to contribute to the creation of a like system with either time or money. In fact, I hereby announce that I will pay $50 toward a bounty for a like system that works.

If anyone else is interested in writing a like system and wants my coding help, HMU. If anyone else is interested in contributing to a bounty, HMU and we can coordinate a set of necessary+sufficient conditions.

I'm actually not sure about the likes. Without likes, there is a stronger incentive to write comments, which might be a good thing?

Also, I actually like the "music" feature.

Another improvement, don't display the "(NO SUBJECT)" thing if someone hasn't included a subject.

How would the like system work with only client side changes? Making them replies would clutter up people's posts for people without the client.

I also kind of want reblogs, but it seems like a big thing to impose on a social network that didn't have it before (and it does have major downsides).
